Speaker John Ashley

Our first speaker, John Ashley, spent his working life in I.T., a calling which took him to work and live in several countries, including four in the Caribbean. He returned to the U.K. in 2005 and realised a long-held ambition to become an historian.

Having studied at Oxford University, he now teaches a variety of historical subjects at Swansea University and is researching for a PhD. John is chair of the Swansea Branch of the Historical Association and of the Friends of White Rock, and director of the Roads & Road Transport History Association.

In 2012 The Bay magazine published “Ashley's Walks Around Swansea and Gower”, a compendium of his monthly walks column.
