The History Day on 26th September went very well. The launch of the Swansea History Journal (Minerva) was exceptionally well-attended
– the Education Room could not have taken any more – and copies were picked up throughout the day.
John Ashley (White Rock), Clive Reed (Ynysmeudwy Pottery), Colin James (Swansea Castle) and Roger Parmiter (Oystermouth Castle) dealt with their various topics and in their various styles with verve and real authority. Even at the end of the day when Gerald Gabb (Swansea before industry) spoke the room remained pleasantly full.
Some hardy souls stayed throughout, and were fortified by the excellent refreshments from the R.I. Social Committee. Others came and went. About 300 attended in all.
The R.I. is heartily grateful to the Swansea branch of the Historical Association who contributed to the day’s undoubted success.
